What are the starting voltage and rated voltage of a DC cooling fan?

With the increasing prevalence of cooling fans, many people are interested in the details of cooling fans, and some ask about the starting voltage and rated voltage of DC cooling fans.

Starting Voltage: The minimum voltage required for the fan to be suddenly powered on.

Operating Voltage: The stable voltage required for the fan to operate normally after being powered on, i.e., the rated voltage.

What is the relationship between starting voltage and rated voltage?

Starting Voltage: If the rated voltage of a DC cooling fan is 12V, the starting voltage is generally below 7V. Since the voltage supplied by the system may be unstable, the lower the starting voltage, the greater the distance from the rated voltage of 12V, indicating that the DC fan can operate over a wider voltage range, ensuring low-voltage activation and starting of the fan even under unstable voltage conditions.

Starting Voltage Testing Method

The starting voltage value can be measured using a multimeter or other testing tools. A low operating current for a DC cooling fan not only reduces power consumption but also reduces the heat value of the fan motor, extending the lifespan of the cooling fan. For oil-lubricated cooling fans, it also slows down the evaporation of lubricating oil, so the lower the current, the higher the fan's reliability. With constant airflow and air pressure, the lower the fan current, the lower the power; since the actual power delivered to the gas remains constant, the higher the fan efficiency. The operating current of a cooling fan can be measured with an ammeter.
